Life of a Hellenic Polytheist

So quite recently I was out and about Glasgow town, which is very rare as it costs quite a bit for my fiance and I to get there. Yet I always enjoy gong to Glasgow as it is such a  great town to be in as it is full of shops and as it was  beautiful day I came across the local Charity shop called The British Heart Foundation and what I found there, truly took my breath away. What I had laid eye upon was truly a gift from the Heavens and this is what I found: An Aphrodite Statue and two female bust statues as you can see here:  from left to right: Demeter (?), Venus de Milo aka Aphrodite and Persephone(?)  I was absolutely over the moon when I laid eyes on the Venus de Milo aka Goddess Aphrodite statue, in fact it was like "love at first sight" and I was absolutely in love with her. As soon as I took her home, at first I didn't know quite what to do with her as to whether to cleanse her or just dedicate the statue to the Goddess as is, but...

As from next year, I shall not only be following "The Temple of The Greek Gods" Calendar layout, where each month is dedicated to a specific God and or Goddess, but I shall also be following the "Monthly Libation Calendar" of the Reconstructionist group "Hellenion", which is roughly the same, but honouring the gods on different months! Although I am not a member of the group itself, I have always frequented their website in pursuit of more information and gain more knowledge and experience. They have very good information on the Ancient greek festivals and this year I have been celebrating festivals such as the Kronia (honouring Kronus the Harvester), Panathenia (honouring Athena and the founding of Athens) and recently the Kourotrophos (in honour of the child protectresses Hecate and Artemis). I have recety wanted to have more structure in my spiritual worship and I think that Reconstructionism , will have the answers to a more structured form and lay...

Yayy I received my new book in the post via Amazon.co.uk ! I recently submitted a "Rite to Hephaestus" and it got published in thsi book "Harnessing Fire: A Devotional Anthology in honour of Hephaestus" which was edited by Rachel Buchanan who is a member of the group "Bibliotheca Neos Alexandria". The group themselves are a non profit organization of hellnic and kemetic polytheists and all the proceeds fo teh books go straight into another book or anthology dedicated to another Gods or goddess of either the Greek pantheon or Egytian pantheon. anyway I'm proud that I got my submission published and will treaure it, as well as take pride of place in my hellenic bookshelf collection. As I have another post of this gorgeous "Venus De Milo" Statue that I had to do a separate post on how I went about "cleansisng the statue and the small Ritual I had done for her . So I hope you like it. As soon as I took her home, at first I didn't know quite what to do with her as to whether to cleanse her or just dedicate the satatue to the Goddess as is, but then thought , "No I have to do something coz I have no idea if she had any previous owners and what sort of energy they possed" So I asked around a few of my hellenic friends and they told me that I would have to do a small ritual to cleanse and purify her so I did. Now I know some of you may think that having a morning routine when worshipping the Gods is not necessary, but I say that if you going to devote yourself to the Gods, then you have to make the effort in gaining their favour. You can't expect the Gods to help you if you are not willing to help yourself by doing some running ie to pass an exam you have to study for it. The Gods will not do the work for you , but they will help you in some sort of way if you give them reverence and honour. So here is my routine: 1) Wash hands and face (to clean off any negative energy-* miasma.  Never pray to the gods with unclean hands. If you have time for a shower, then its even better. 2) Stand before the altar, light insence and candle to Hestia. Then recite Homeric Hymn #24 "Hestia, you who tend the holy house of the Lord Apollo the far shooter at goodly  Pytho with soft oil dripping ever from your locks, come now into this house, come, having one mind with Zeus the all wise, ...

Ok so not a lot of us young people think much about death if we are in our teens or early 20's as we feel that death is a long way away. Yet I think it is good to have a think about ones own mortality now and then just to to get the ol' brain cells going and of course the all time question "how would you want to go? ie funeral wise, would you want to be cremated, buried, embalmed/mummified (yes to this day you still can get embalmed but its not a common process). Today i thought I would share what is on my Pagan bookshelf. I know a lot of Pagan have tons of Pagan books , but I personally don't seem to have that many, but hopefully I shall be expanding on it soon once I can get the funds for it of course . I always strive to have as many books as possible whether it be on tourism and tourist places like the Seychelles, or even educational books or story books. All books are precious and fortunately i have been blessed with so many I could turn my house into a library! Once i moved to Scotland my fiance couldn't believe the amount of boxes I had filled with just books alone (4 large boxes to be exact) he even said to me "Are you planning on even reading these books ever AGAIN?" What a daft question to ask. I may not read them all again, but at least i will have them to hadn't just incase I have the urge to read them again.
