Making of the Ares Helmet

Image
Being a Devotee of Ares God of War, I realised that I had no decent decorative objects to put on my Ares altar. I did have my Ares Picture Icon and an Ares Figurine from the Marvel  Super Heroes Squad (which is too).  Yet something else needed to be put on the altar that pertained to Ares himself and what is the mark of a Greek warrior? His armour!! So I went onto my favourite Ares blogger "Aspis of Ares" where he had done a few 101 Ares blogs about how to go about worshipping Ares. I then noticed in one of his blog posts, that he had an altar where he had actually made a wrought iron frame helmet, which I thought was really awesome. So I thought to myself, I can't work iron but I can work Paper Mache, which then led me to a fellow Youtuber (Epic Fantasy)  whom I follow diligently and he had made the a whole set of Spartan armour from 300 (helmet, greaves , sword spear, chest armour vambraces etc!. Of course I wasn't going to create all the armour so what I did was...

Shrine of Athena

Image
Hail and Welcome I set up a Shrine to Athena Goddess of Wisdom and Knowledge. I consider her as being my Spiritual Mother and I thought I would show you this Shrine unto her which I have set up on my mantle piece.  I know that the mantle piece should only be a place for Hestia, but as I recently had to de-clutter my house I was unable to place her in my usual Altar spot whereby I usually do my daily prayers. So here is the Shrine I built for her and I recited this quick prayer to go along with it making offerings of water and insence . Enjoy and May Athena Bless you All . O' Mighty and Beautiful Athena Wisest of the Gods,  Good counsel and favourite daughter of Zeus  Hear me as I now dedicate this shrine in your honour I shall live this day remembering who I am and know that your spirit lies within me  noble Lady of the Grey eyes the one whom I call my Spiritual Mother I ask that you protect us and this house with your shield and spear.   ...

My Altars Then and Now

Image
Thought I would post a real quick post on what my altars looked way back when I started my Pagan path back in 2007/08 and the Present 2013 when my pagan practiced changed from Ecclectic Wicca and then changed drastically to a Hellenic Polytheist. As you see below these are my Ecclectic Wiccan Altars.. Chaotic as hell right? I think it shows I was totally all over the damn place lol  Yule altar Beltaine Altar And my Hellenic Altars 2011-13..hmm still a bit "cluttered" but more focused on one God or Goddess for  each  month of the year.   Month of Zeus Altar Month of Artemis I also have a Facebook Group which is dedicated to the Gods of Olympus and Hellenic Altars if you would like to join and need some inspiration on how to set up an Altar to a particular Greek God or Goddess then follow the link below:     http://www.facebook.com/groups/celebratinghellenicaltars/ Hail the Olympians

Month of Zeus Altar

Image
Altar to Zeus The Month of Zeus has come and gone and what can I say? it has been quite an eye opener, coz this month is when I go through all the Greek myths books and reference guides that I can find and read up on the Mighty Lord Zeus, Ruler of Mt Olympus, Lord of the Skies, Wielder of Thunder and lightening, protector of the home otherwise known as Theos Agathos  (there are more labels but can't put them all here) I have also learned that Zeus goes by quite  few Greek epithets (greek names /labels) to differentiate teh different "sides" of our Mighty Lord Zeus. Some of them are Ombrios (of the rain),  Keraunios (of the Thunderbolt), Astrapaios (Of lightening)etc .There were so many as there were also many cults that were made in his honour and so each had their own name for him as well as each town/village as well. If you'd like to know more you can see the link here   http://www.theoi.com/Cult/ZeusTitles.htm l Altar Set Up Altar cloth Blue or pu...

My Pagan Path

Image
Holy Hera  I can't believe it! I have been a Pagan for about 5 years now! Even I didn't think I would stick to being a Pagan this long and neither did my fiance (who now admirers me for having stuck at it for so long and "Given the house personality and a different vibe to it" - yeah his exact words- YAY go me). Having moved to Scotland from  London where I used to live with my gran,(but due to personal dilemmas my family and I could no longer stay there, so we went our separate ways) and moved to Scotland to be with my fiance who was already living there in a big council house. Since moving in with him, I got involved with many things such as the local village CubScout group and so became the first young Assistant Cub Scout female Leader and subsequently witness the change of integrating female cubs to the cubscouts (yeah coz we had to bring equality into it blah blah). So it was all new to me having getting involved with cubscouting and have been doing it ...

Rite to Hades Altar

Image
Hades Altar Now I know that Samhain /All Hallows Eve (Halloween) is NOT a Hellenic Holiday , but that shouldn't stop anyone from honouring those who have gone before you, be it a family , friends or even house pets we have had in the past. I for one never celebrated Halloween in my childhood as I always thought it was rediculous and more aimed at the consumers and supermarket as a ploy to market their sweet sales etc. Yet having converting to Paganism and Hellenism respectively I have come to terms with respecting and honouring the dead. Sadly My mother duly passed away back in 2001 I thought it is my duty to honour her. Now as this celebration is all about Death and ancestral honourings, it's only appropriate to honour a God of the Death. As I worship and honour the Greek Gods, Hades is the Greek God of the Underworld and the Dead with his Queen Persephone.  As the story goes, Hades "kidnaps" (there are sources which say "rapes Persephone",but I...

Month of Hephaestus

Image
The Month of Hephaestus is now over, but I wanted to share with you how to go about setting one up and my experiences. There are no hard and fast rules when it comes to altar setups as what you put on it is entirely up to you. I personally like a rather basic "Uncluttered" altar as I believe that less is more, rather than slamming down every imaginable object you have in sight. Altar Set Up Altar Cloth Red , Orange or black Statue/picture As I do not have a statue I had to make do with a picture to which i coloured in with a red and orange background signifying his working in a blacksmiths. He is also a God of fire since he works a lot with it by smelting metals. Objects & Symbols Now the Smith Gods main tool is the Hammer and anvil I didn't think that a full sized hammer would look too well on my small altar, so what I did was to do a makeshift small hammer and anvil out of Lego bits which I thought worked extremely well , given its smaller size. As you...

Month of Artemis

Image
The Month of Artemis has finally arrived and I thought it would only befitting that I write about how I would go about celebrating Her month , what Artemis means to me and how I incorporate and worship her in my daily life. Altar: Month of Artemis Altar For my Month of Artemis altar I went all out, as I think that she embodies a lot of things, such as female independance, child carer /mother figure, and most of all eco-warrior and huntress of wildlife a well as carer of of the animals. As you can see on my altar, I chose to use my brass stag deer and doe, specifically the stag to the right as it represents the masculine side for me and the doe on the left as being the female side. with the picture of Artemis in the middle. In a way the Stag looks as though he is "hailing" Artemis and the Doe "bowing " in Artemis's great honour. I also put on my altar a brass dog in front of her picture, to represent her hunting hounds as well as protecting her and ...
